ResMed Centres for Healthy Sleep have developed clinical pathways along with advice from sleep physicians to enable us to deliver high standards of care achieving the best possible outcomes.

8. How will it affect my driving licence?
If you have been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome, the DVLA does have regulations that you should be aware of. Excessive sleepiness is a symptom of untreated OSA and thus effects a person's ability to concentrate and possibly to drive safely. Many road traffic accidents have been attributed to undiagnosed / untreated OSA. Therefore, it is the legal responsibility of the licence holder to inform the DVLA, and if they fail to do so they are committing an offence.
A driver is legally responsible for his or her vigilance and thus an accident due to falling asleep is deemed the drivers fault.
If you are in doubt you may contact the Drivers Medical Unit, DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1TU, or visit their website.
Further advice should also be available from your sleep clinic making the diagnosis of OSA.
